Make Work Enjoyable
The creator of Peter Pan, James Barrie is attributed as saying, “Nothing is really work unless you would rather be doing something else.”
For most people, this rings true as work is considered dull, boring and unexciting. Work seems to sap their energy. It is therefore something to be avoided and hence procrastinated upon.
However, in order to get work done you need to make it enjoyable.
Listen to music while you work. Upbeat music may help increase the pace as it gives you energy, or you may need to listen to soothing music if you are trying to beat stress. The choice is up to you. What matters is what works for you and what gets the work done.
You can also set yourself personal targets and rewards. Allow yourself a short break after you reach a particular stage in your work. Get up from your desk and take a short walk, even if it is to take a drink of water. The short break can be a joyful respite and give you enough room to breathe and return to work refreshed.
You could also reward yourself with a snack. Something small like a piece of fruit should help give you a break and not add to the waistline. Eating small snacks also helps keep energy levels up.
Some people find coffee helps them work better as the aroma and the caffeine kick you into high gear.
The key is to find small things that add joy to your work so tackling work seems less of a task.
Learn to enjoy work so you can achieve more.
